Recognise + Workup

Causes: iatrogenic (most common — TUR surgery, catheterisation), traumatic (pelvic fracture, straddle), inflammatory (BXO, post-STI), idiopathic. Features: weak stream, hesitancy, terminal dribbling, recurrent UTI, acute retention, haematuria. Workup: • Uroflowmetry: low max flow rate (<10 mL/s); plateau pattern. • Post-void residual. • Retrograde urethrogram (RUG) — gold standard. • Cystoscopy. • Urinalysis + MSU.
