Recognise + Red Flags
Lump-in-throat sensation without true dysphagia, worse between meals, often relieved by eating.
Common causes: laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), stress / anxiety, voice misuse, cricopharyngeal hypertonicity, GORD.
RED FLAGS — refer 2WW:
• Persistent dysphagia (food sticking).
• Weight loss.
• Hoarseness >3 weeks.
• Persistent neck mass.
• Odynophagia.
• Otalgia (referred).
• Haemoptysis.
• Smoker / heavy alcohol >50.
