Pre-Assessment Considerations
Before MHA: try least restrictive option. If patient has capacity to consent + agrees → informal admission preferred. MCA framework if patient lacks capacity but no objection (consider DoLS).
MHA criteria common to all: mental disorder of nature/degree warranting detention + necessary in interest of patient's health/safety OR for protection of others + appropriate treatment available (Section 3).
