Screening Programme
NHS Cervical Screening (NHSCSP) since 2019 uses HPV-primary testing:
• Eligible: women + people with cervix aged 25–64.
• Frequency: 25–49 every 3 years; 50–64 every 5 years.
• Sample: liquid-based cytology; HPV test first.
• HPV negative: routine recall.
• HPV positive + cytology negative: repeat at 1 year.
• HPV positive + cytology abnormal (any grade): colposcopy referral.
• HPV persistently positive at 3 consecutive tests (3 years): colposcopy.
