- Centor / McIsaac Score for Strep PharyngitisPredicts likelihood of Group A Streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis to guide antibiotic prescribing. McIsaac modification adds age adjustment.
- Lund-Mackay CT Score for Chronic RhinosinusitisRadiological staging system for chronic rhinosinusitis using CT sinus scoring. Each sinus scored 0-2. Maximum score 24.
- EpiScore for Epistaxis SeverityClinical scoring system for acute epistaxis to guide treatment escalation from simple first aid to intervention.
- Paradise Criteria for TonsillectomyEvidence-based criteria for tonsillectomy in recurrent tonsillitis. Requires ≥7 episodes in 1 year, ≥5/year for 2 years, or ≥3/year for 3 years.
- Dix-Hallpike Test Interpretation / BPPV AssessmentClinical assessment and diagnostic criteria for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) based on Dix-Hallpike findings.
- Snellen Visual Acuity InterpretationInterprets Snellen chart visual acuity measurements. Standard notation: 6/x metres (UK) or 20/x feet (US). Used to screen for visual impairment, assess driving eligibility, and guide referral to ophthalmology.
- Ishihara Colour Vision Test InterpretationPseudoisochromatic plate test for identifying congenital red-green colour vision deficiency. Standard 24-plate test: 17+ correct = normal; 13 or fewer = colour vision deficiency. Important for certain occupations (aviation, driving, certain clinical roles).
- Acute Rhinosinusitis Severity (EPOS Criteria)Classifies acute rhinosinusitis severity and guides antibiotic prescribing based on EPOS 2020 guidelines.
- SNOT-22 (Sinonasal Outcome Test)Patient-reported outcome measure for chronic rhinosinusitis. Score 0-110; higher scores indicate greater disease burden. Guides treatment decisions and surgical referral.
- Hearing Loss Grading (WHO Classification)Grades severity of hearing loss based on average hearing threshold (dB HL) per WHO classification. Guides audiological and surgical referral.
- FeverPAIN Score (Streptococcal Tonsillitis)Predicts likelihood of Group A streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis to guide antibiotic prescribing. Developed in UK primary care.
- STOP-BANG Score (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea)Screens for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) using 8 dichotomous questions. High risk guides polysomnography referral and perioperative planning.
- Epistaxis Severity Score (ESS)Quantifies epistaxis severity to guide management from first aid to surgical intervention. Considers frequency, volume, and haemodynamic impact.
- HINTS Plus (Central vs Peripheral Vertigo)Differentiates central (stroke) from peripheral vertigo using Head Impulse, Nystagmus, Test of Skew (HINTS) plus hearing loss. Outperforms early MRI for posterior fossa stroke.
- Acute Otitis Media Severity (AOM-SOS)Grades acute otitis media severity to guide antibiotic prescribing vs watchful waiting in children and adults.
- House-Brackmann Facial Nerve GradingStandard grading of facial nerve function (House & Brackmann 1985), used for Bell's palsy, post-parotidectomy, post-acoustic neuroma surgery and other facial palsy. Grades I (normal) to VI (total paralysis).
- Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI)25-item self-report tinnitus burden questionnaire (Newman 1996). Each item: No (0), Sometimes (2), Yes (4). Total 0–100. Pick severity band — for full item-level score use the THI form.
- Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI)25-item self-report (Jacobson 1990). Functional, emotional and physical sub-scales. Each item: No (0), Sometimes (2), Yes (4). Total 0–100. Pick severity band — for full score use DHI form.
- Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA)25-item self-report screening for adults <65 (Newman 1990; HHIE for ≥65). Emotional + Social/Situational sub-scales. Each item: No (0), Sometimes (2), Yes (4). Total 0–100.
- Voice Handicap Index (VHI-10)10-item self-report of voice-related disability (Rosen 2004). Each 0 (never) to 4 (always). Total 0–40. Score >11 abnormal; ≥17 indicates significant voice handicap.
- Friedman Tongue Position & Anatomical Staging for OSAPredicts surgical (UPPP) success and OSA severity from oropharyngeal anatomy (Friedman 1999). Combines Friedman Tongue Position (FTP I–IV), tonsil size (0–4) and BMI to derive Stage I–IV.
- Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly — Screening (HHIE-S)10-item screening version for adults ≥65 (Ventry & Weinstein 1983). Each item: No (0), Sometimes (2), Yes (4). Total 0–40. Cut-off ≥10 indicates self-perceived hearing handicap and triggers audiometry.
- RSI — Reflux Symptom Index9-item self-report screen for laryngopharyngeal reflux (Belafsky 2002). Each symptom 0 (no problem) to 5 (severe). Total 0–45. Score >13 considered abnormal and triggers PPI trial / further workup.
- RFS — Reflux Finding Score8-item laryngoscopic examination score (Belafsky 2001) for LPR. Total 0–26. Score >7 abnormal. Useful pre/post PPI to monitor response.
